Survey 2 : Perth

3/2025 96FM was #1. Rebranding to Gold they have lost 12.5 in 40-54 age group with other stations gaining 7.1 whilst ABC gaining 4.4.

Survey 1 : Perth

96FM rebranded to Gold losing 3.0 Year-on-Year. They lost 7.0 in the 18-24 age group with Triple M gaining 13.5 and Triple J gaining 4.5.

Year-on-Year : Perth

JJJ has climbed to #3 by increasing its share by 1.5% over the last 12 months. They replaced 96FM who have lost 0.9% of its listeners :


Survey 1 : Perth

Last survey 96FM held #3 by 0.1% over JJJ. JJJ grew its share by 1.3% whilst 96FM grew by 1.1% for JJJ to claim #3 :
  1. 14.9% - Mix 94.5 (Adult Contemporary/Southern Cross Austereo)
  2. 12.0% - Nova 93.7 (Chart/DMG)
  3. 11.7% - JJJ 
  4. 11.6% - 96FM (Rock/Fairfax)
  5. 10.7% - ABC 720 
  6.   8.4% - FM 92.9 (Chart/Southern Cross Austereo)
JJJ made its biggest gain at weekends, up 2.9% whilst 96FM gained 2.5% at weekday evenings :

Year-on-Year : Perth

Nova 93.7 has increased its share by 2.2% taking listeners away from 96FM and FM 92.9 :


Mix 94.5 is back at #1 but it has been eventful over the 12 months. JJJ and 96FM have been #1 over winter.


Survey 8 : Perth

JJJ has started its recovery by regaining 1.4% and leaping over ABC 720 and FM 92.9 to climb into #4. 96FM lost 1% and now only 0.1% ahead of JJJ :
  1. 14.1% - Mix 94.5 (Adult Contemporary/Southern Cross Austereo)
  2. 12.3% - Nova 93.7 (Chart/DMG)
  3. 10.5% - 96FM (Rock/Fairfax)
  4. 10.4% - JJJ 
  5. 10.3% - ABC 720 
  6.   9.1% - FM 92.9 (Chart/Southern Cross Austereo)
JJJ has taken listeners away from 96FM and FM 92.9 across the day. Whilst Nova 93.7 gained 1.7% in the evenings :

Survey 7 : Other Listening

This week, Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and Commercial Radio Australia announce an increase in listening. CBAA report that an average 29% of radio listeners tune into community radio each week. Whilst CRA report that 12.3% of listening is now done on digital radio.

This would be represented in the unaccounted figure in Survey 7. In Sydney and Adelaide, the 18-39 ages are exploring other options the most. Whilst it is the senior ages in the other cities. In Perth, it is 27% for 65 and older.

Year-on-Year : Perth

12 months ago, Mix 94.5 lead by near 3%. Nova 93.7 has increased its share by 2.0% and 96FM by 1.2% squeezing together the top 3.


Mix 94.5 is back at #1 but it has been eventful over the 12 months. JJJ and 96FM have been #1 over winter.


Survey 7 : Perth

After only 0.4% separating the top 3, Mix 94.5 gained 1.3% to become a clear #1. 96FM lost 1.0% whilst Nova 93.7 made a small gain. In Survey 5, JJJ was #1 but now fallen to mid-table losing 4.0% over that period  :
  1. 13.5% - Mix 94.5 (Adult Contemporary/Southern Cross Austereo)
  2. 12.4% - Nova 93.7 (Chart/DMG)
  3. 11.5% - 96FM (Rock/Fairfax)
  4. 10.8% - ABC 720 
  5.   9.6% - FM 92.9 (Chart/Southern Cross Austereo)
  6.   9.0% - JJJ 
Mix claimed #1 by increasing listeners across the day and from its rivals for breakfast. JJJ has lost listeners across the day to see it fall to 6th.

Year-on-Year : Perth

Comparing 12 months ago both Southern Cross Austereo stations - FM 92.9 and Mix 94.5 - have both lost listeners to 96FM and JJJ. Nova 93.9 remains relatively unchanged.


A year ago, 96FM was #4. But for the last 3 surveys it has been the #1 commercial radio station. Whilst FM 92.9 is now falling behind.


Survey 6 : Perth

JJJ peaked in Survey 5 and 96FM has reclaimed #1 spot. But it is only 0.4% separating the top 3 :
  1. 12.5% - 96FM (Rock/Fairfax)
  2. 12.2% - Mix 94.5 (Adult Contemporary/Southern Cross Austereo)
  3. 12.1% - Nova 93.7 (Chart/DMG)
  4. 11.2% - JJJ 
  5. 10.7% - ABC 720 
  6.   9.3% - FM 92.9 (Chart/Southern Cross Austereo)
Mix and Nova move closer to #1 by sharing JJJ 10-17 lost listeners whilst 96FM gained in the 18-39 age range.

Year-on-Year : Perth

Over 12 months the listening patterns in Perth have drastically been changed. To become the most listened to station, JJJ have gained nearly 5%. Whilst both Southern Cross Austereo stations have both lost listeners, FM 92.9 down 3% and Mix 94.5 down 2.9%.


Mix

Mix across the country is split. In Adelaide, it is the clear leader. Along with Brisbane (97.3 FM), is seeing an increase in listeners. Sydney is maintaining its listeners if only floating around a lowly 5%. Whilst Perth and Melbourne are gradually losing their market share.


Survey 5 : Perth

Perth is a unique radio market as it does not mirror the station lineups in the other mainland capitals. In this situation, ABC's alternative music station, JJJ has leaped over 96FM, Mix 94.5 and Nova 93.7 to claim the #1 spot :
  1. 13.0% - JJJ 
  2. 12.1% - 96FM (Rock/Fairfax)
  3. 12.1% - Mix 94.5 (Adult Contemporary/Southern Cross Austereo)
  4. 11.3% - Nova 93.7 (Chart/DMG)
  5. 10.2% - ABC 720 
  6.   9.5% - FM 92.9 (Chart/Southern Cross Austereo)
JJJ success has been achieved by dominating the 18-39 age range.
