Survey 1 : Gold Coast

Other stations lost 7.9 with Hot Tomato gaining 5.8, Triple M gaining 2.5 and Brisbane stations gaining 1.8. Nova 106.9 leads Brisbane stations with 3.2 whilst 4BH tripled its listeners.

Survey 3 : Gold Coast

Triple J was the only station to gain listeners. They have moved from the 18-24 age group to 25-39. In 18-24 they switched to Sea FM whilst Hot Tomato and Triple M sharing 10-17.

Survey 2 : Gold Coast

The Gold Coast radio audience is fragmented with Brisbane stations included in the survey. Nearly a third of listening is with other stations. It is the 40 years & older exploring alternative radio options.

Survey 3 : Gold Coast

The Gold Coast-based stations lost listeners. Sea FM lost 1.6%, ABC 91.7 lost 1.3% and Gold FM lost 1.1%. Only Hot Tomato increased, gaining 1.1%. The biggest improvement was 1.4% with other stations.


Gold FM lost listeners under 40 age with Sea FM losing 6.4% in the 18-24 age group. Whilst ABC 91.7 lost listeners to stations outside the Gold Coast.


During the day, the commercial stations dominate. But in the evening, JJJ becomes the most popular station :

Survey 2 : Gold Coast

One point I note from the survey, is how much the Gold Coast radio audience is fragmented. The survey includes Brisbane stations. But nearly a quarter of listening hours is with other stations. In market share, Gold FM leads with 16.2%, just 0.1% ahead of fellow Southern Cross Austereo station, Sea FM. Independent station, Hot Tomato has 12.3%. 


I expected that the younger generation was exploring alternative radio options. But as the graph below shows, it is the 55 years & older (purple columns).
